Watch that Waste and Do it Yourself Cleaners

Written on July 19, 2008 – 1:46 pm | by Rick

Think before you toss…

Choosing the right kind of products with little or no packaging is an easy way to reduce what comes into your home and what ends up in the landfill. Reusing instead of throwing away makes economic sense, and the best kind of recycling is to give the things you don’t want to someone who really needs them. Before you toss away old items, consider if you can give them away. Charities collect clothes, bedding and other textiles to sell for funds or distribute to people in need.

Many items that are normally consigned straight to the garbage can be modified to serve many useful purposes. Cut the top half off a plastic soft drink bottle to make a handy funnel for the kitchen. Use sheets of newspaper to clean greasy pans and barbeques, or to wrap food scraps before throwing them out. Reuse those plastic bags you get at the super market by lining the kitchen garbage bin.

In the office, print only when necessary doesn’t use wide margins and large typefaces. Check for errors on the screen before printing and use both sides of the paper. You can also select the draft or rough print option to conserve toner. Don’t use a cover sheet when faxing.

eMotion Solar Powered PMP

Written on July 16, 2008 – 2:12 pm | by Rick

Solar-powered PMPs could be the device of the future and eMotion Solar PMP is one device that is on the right track. The funny thing is, this is not the first incarnation of the exact same solar PMP design. We have spotted this device a couple of times in wholesalers sites. This one is a more pocketable design but lacks the features eMotion brings to the table. Which brings us to the actual review of Gizmodo. Surprise, surprise, the solar-panel works quite well. It gives the device enough power for video playback and game playing. All the features, though lacking in finesse, work. There is even text-to-speech on eMotion. As mentioned in this post, this PMP can charge other devices including other PMPs and even iPods. Alas, it doesn’t work on the iPhone. For $169, this 2GB multi-media player and portable gamer is a bargain. Even if you don’t use it for multimedia, it’s a handy power source for your other devices. (gizmodo)
