At Least Someone Has A Plan

Written on July 9, 2008 – 1:14 pm | by Rick

Yesterday to much fanfare, T. Boone Pickens, the multi billionaire oil mogul, unveiled his plan to help the US reduce its’ dependency on foreign energy supplies. I do have to say it is a very comprehensive and aggressive plan. It isn’t the be all to end all but as he says, it’s a ‘bridge’ plan to get us to where we really need to be. We can no longer afford to sit back, do nothing and then complain about it.

America is in a hole and it’s getting deeper every day. We import 70% of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year – four times the annual cost of the Iraq war.

Wind power, solar power, geothermal, drilling, coal, shale, biofuels are all part of the plan. It isn’t a one size fits all but rather the most comprehensive plans I have seen put forth by anyone so far. While our politicians are sitting on their fat asses in their air conditioned offices on the tax payers dime doing NOTHING, it appears as usual, private enterprise will again be on the cutting edge to save us from their apathy and ourselves.

With the election commercials in full swing you can see that politicians think that showing us them switching off a light or unplugging their laptop will prove to us just how ‘green’ they are. This is and always has been our problem. Too little, too late and then when it comes right down to it, they end up doing nothing anyway.

I wont go into describing the whole plan, you can go read it yourself at :

When I first arrived at the site there were just over 2000 users. Today (7/9/2008) there was over 7000. So it appears that this plan has struck a nerve and has possibly started what will be the largest environmental grass roots movement we have ever seen.

EDIT: Today, 7/10/2008, there are over 14000. It doubled in 1 day.

No one else in government has a plan so go check it out, sign up and get involved and let those in office know that it’s time to get off their duff and do what they were elected to do.
