cook and eat green foodsFood is one of the most important things that man cannot live without. Everyone is in need of food and yet in order to make food, we have to use a lot of resources and sometimes, we even pollute the land – and water – with chemicals like fertilizers or pesticides. So in order to help reduce pollution and at the same time sustain our stomachs, we have compiled a list of foods to eat and other related stuff so that eating organic food is not going to sound like an alien concept but more of a good idea.

• If it’s impossible for you to buy all organic foods (organic produce can be pricier than their inorganic counterparts, plus not all supermarkets or grocery store provide a good selection for organic produce), then you might want to consider to just choosing organic over inorganic when buying bell peppers, celery, lettuce, cherries, nectarines, strawberries, lettuce, grapes, apples and pears. The reason for that is because these are some of the foods that when grown inorganically, can be heavily contaminated with pesticides or fertilizers, which can have a negative effect on the body.

• If you like to have a daily fix of caffeine, then you might be surprised by how much you can contribute to the environment if you chose to switch to organic coffee instead of a regular one.

• Try making your own garden. Or if you already have one, plant foods like tomatoes or other vegetables that are easy to care for. Not only will you help the environment, but you’ll also save money by producing your own veggies. Plant carrots, potatoes, lettuce, spring onions, ginger and other kinds of vegetable and root crops that don’t need much caring for.

• Believe it or not, there is now a so-called organic beer. There are different kinds of organic beer available. This kind of beer is good for barbeques or whenever you have friends over. This beer doesn’t only taste good but is also a good topic of conversation – so whenever you throw a party that includes different kinds of people, throw organic beer into the mix.

• Okay, so many people know about the new hybrid cars. But have you heard about a hybrid grill? Didn’t think so. Well, a hybrid grill relies on electricity and gas for cooking meats, vegetables and so on and burns only a small amount of charcoal or wood so that the food will still have that authentic “smoked barbecue taste”. This grill will definitely go hand in hand with organic beers.

• If you love eating out, why don’t you avoid the temptation of going in to your favorite fast food joint and choosing a restaurant or eatery that offers food that are made with organic ingredients? If you support eating organic food even when you’re outside your home, it will have an impact on the food industry. Even if it’s a small decision, when people are aware that more and more people are eating organic, this will be a good start in the fight against pollution and global warming.
